Keelan Westall appoint new Head of Business Barbon has restructured its insurance property division and appointed former Towergate director, Wayne Tonge, as Head of Business within its wholesale broking business, Keelan Westall. Mr Tonge's appointment comes three years after he quit Keelan Westall, now part of the Barbon Insurance Group, to join Towergate, where he was given a role within CCV to build up its letting agent solutions business, now part of Paymentshield, and a sales director role in Towergate's property division. Before joining Barbon on 5th July, Mr Tonge was sales director at Towergate-owned broker platform Power Place. He told Post: "The broking market changes all the time. The full cycle EDI environment where I have come from is grabbing brokers' attention. I am looking at everything from service levels to Sales organisation." He also plans to build up Prestige, the insurance broker club he helped launch four years ago from the current level of 24 members. He added: "I have the same values and vision I had when I walked out the door three years ago but I'm now better known in the broker market, I understand what competitors are doing and what is needed to take this company forward." The restructure comes as Barbon reports a 15% year-on-year rise in profit and a 1% rise in income to £1.5m across the group for the first six months of 2010. It reported earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation of more than £8m and did 67% more new business compared to the same period in 2009. The property division income rose 1% and profit rose 3% marking a £250,000 increase. Camphill Activity Day Set in the elegant landscape of a family-owned Georgian Mansion in Bedale, North Yorkshire, four Keelan Westall staff treated 12 of their insurance brokers to an activity day at Camphill. The day kicked off with a hearty breakfast and a briefing on the activities for the day; four groups of four enjoyed trying their luck with target shooting, archery, quad biking, gemini car racing and power turns. Centered around various forms of racing, it appeared the unanimous favourite was the power turns, with their gutsy acceleration and dual controls it instantly put a smile on your face! With each driver being in charge of an engine - one controlling the left turns and one controlling the right turns - the smile soon turned in hysterical laughter, or arguments (!) as the pairs worked together to navigate their way around the obstacle course. The winning team, were rewarded with token prizes and we were delighted that a fabulous day was had by all. Royal Ascot 2010 We attended the annual race meet at Royal Ascot this year with our guests, David Hadden and Tim Larden from Woodstock Insurance, Alpen and Himish Patel from Commercial and Stephen Brown and David Burrell from Scots Insurance. We dined in the Carriages Restaurant with our table situated with a fantastic view of the finish line - the day began with a Champagne reception and canapes followed by a four-course lunch. Much excitement was had by a number of the party who had some fairly good wins throughout the day! Congratulations to David, Becci, Steve and Stephen! We were lucky enough to witness the closing Royal Procession where the Queen and Royal party arrive in horse drawn landaus! The event was extremely successful and great fun was had by all in attendance. Rise in Insurance Premium Tax - 5% to 6% As many of you may be aware there has been much speculation over Insurance Premium Tax in the past few months, with suggested percentages as high as 10%! Following Parliamentary emergency budget announcements today (22/06/2010) Chancellor George Osborne confirmed that indeed there will be a lift in Insurance Premium Tax. Effective on January 4th 2011, Insurance Premium Tax will increase from 5% to 6%. It is worth nothing that Personal Travel Insurance has been hit by the increased rate from 17.5% to 20% which will also be effective from 4th January 2011. Keelan Westall enjoyed an amazing sunny day at Windsor races with AIF Limited t/a Alfa Insurance Facilities and LFC Insurance Brokers Limited as our special guests. We left Maidenhead on board a luxury river cruiser and headed down the Thames to our destination. On board we were treated to a spread of delicious goodies and plenty of Champagne - which was thoroughly enjoyed by all on board! The day was a great success and although many of us returned with lighter wallets, there were a few lucky winners. Well done Mark Costello! A great big thank you to Belinda Holmes and Adrian Manning for joining us - we are very pleased you enjoyed your day. BIBA - May 2010 Keelan Westall exhibited at this years BIBA Conference held at London’s ExCel centre. The hospitality tickets for England v All Blacks at Twickenham were won by Maurice Hawkins of AIPS. The prize draw generated a lot of activity which made the show a roaring success and kept everyone very busy. The team spent two days chatting with brokers about the wide range of products Keelan Westall can offer and there was a great deal of interest. It was also the perfect occasion for Keelan Westall to introduce brokers to the new and improved Prestige Broker Club which was met with great excitement. Attending the BIBA conference gives us a fantastic opportunity to both spend time with our current brokers and to network with potential new ones, and with record attendance figures this year we will be following up on all new contacts in the immediate future. The exciting announcement was made that BIBA 2011 will once again be held in Manchester; we look forward to seeing you there! Charity We are pleased to announce that in 2009 we raised a healthy sum of £9,289.30 for our chosen charity Naomi House Children’s Hospice. Our contact Emma Willshire confirmed that the money we raised went towards building a new hospice ‘Jacksplace’ designed for young people up to the age of 25 – which was officially opened in time for News Years Eve. We will continue into 2010 with organising further activities in support of Naomi House our first planned fund-raising event is a pub quiz open to all staff and insurers.
